Located where the Peace River and Charlotte Harbor meet, Punta Gorda boasts a walkable (and bike-able) downtown area that hums with activity. From weekend farmer’s markets and live music at many restaurants to eccentric spots that set this small city apart, there's always something fun to do. 
Even better, with a thriving culinary scene, you'll be hard pressed to find a chain restaurant amongst the incredible variety of independently owned eateries.
For some exercise after a satisfying meal, take advantage of Punta Gorda Pathways, a system of nearly 18 miles of bicycle and pedestrian-friendly trails that connects major points of interest in the town. And, if cycling sounds good but taking your bike on vacation doesn't, no worries: the state's first bicycle loaner program was established here. Show your ID at a designated location and take one of the yellow bikes out to explore.
