Small Town Charm
When it comes to small town charm, Punta Gorda shines brightly in Southwest Florida.
Located where the Peace River and Charlotte Harbor meet, Punta Gorda boasts a walkable (and bike-able) downtown area that hums with activity. From weekend farmer’s markets and live music at many restaurants to annual festivals celebrating the rich history of the area, there's always something fun going on.
Even better, with an exploding culinary scene, you'll be hard pressed to find a chain restaurant amongst the incredible variety of independently owned eateries.
You'll also find a craft brewery and an amazing chocolate and wine shop, which makes any epicurean adventure even tastier.
For some exercise after a satisfying meal, take advantage of Punta Gorda Pathways, a system of nearly 18 miles of bicycle and pedestrian-friendly trails that connects major points of interest in the town. And, if cycling sounds good but taking your bike on vacation doesn't, no worries: the state's first bicycle loaner program was established here. Show your ID at one of several locations and take one of the yellow bikes out to explore.
There are several accommodation options right in the heart of downtown Punta Gorda that will place you directly on, or just steps from, Harborwalk, which is three miles of the Punta Gorda Pathways system along the Peace River. Explore this scenic route to find beautiful parks and gorgeous views; an astonishing mural under the southbound bridge of US 41 (Tamiami Trail); Fishermen’s Village, a unique venue featuring shopping, waterfront restaurants, a resort, and a marina offering fishing charters and boat trips and rentals; and so much more.
