Punta Gorda, a beautiful and historic small city along the shores of the Peace River where it meets Charlotte Harbor, is highlighted by a quaint, bustling, and walkable downtown full of shops, galleries, and independent restaurants. While there are plenty of accommodation options across the area, to take full advantage of all that Punta Gorda has to offer, you’ll want to stay in one of the 3 downtown hotels—the Wyvern Hotel, the Four Points by Sheraton Punta Gorda Harborside, or SpringHill Suites. A fourth option, The Suites at Fishermen’s Village, is just over a mile away.
Up with the Sun
Early risers will love the proximity to the Harborwalk, a 2.4 mile waterfront trail, literally feet from the downtown hotels and connected to Fishermen’s Village via the parking lot.
When coffee is the first order of business, you’ll find a coffee (and ice cream) spot at Fishermen’s Village (open at 8 am daily) and Punta Gorda Coffee & Tea (7 am daily) right across the street.
Walkable downtown options include John Ski’s House of Breakfast and Lunch (6 am daily), Toula’s, (8 am, Mon–Sat), Steph’s Bakery (8 am, Weds–Sun), Fresco (8:30 am, Weds–Sun), and more.
The Saturday Punta Gorda Downtown Farmer’s Market opens at 8 am and offers everything from coffee and sweets to produce, art and more.
After Dark
If you’re looking for nightlife, all the downtown hotels are within stumbling distance of music-filled late-night spots like the Celtic Ray Public House and Leroy’s Southern Kitchen and Bar. The Four Points even has one right on the property: TT’s Tiki Bar. Find more nighttime entertainment in this post.
Culinary Concerns
Foodies may never want to leave, with a wide array of independent restaurants literally steps away—or just an elevator ride—from all the hotels.
Enjoy tapas and craft cocktails at Perch 360 atop the Wyvern Hotel or settle in for classic American food at Spinnaker Bar & Patio Dining at the Four Points. From SpringHill Suites, stroll over to Ortigia Cuccina & Bar for classic Italian, or head to Isabel & Annabel’s Mexican Restaurant for authentic flavors or try Sandra’s Restaurant for genuine German cuisine.
Fishermen’s Village has three waterfront restaurants (with a fourth opening soon and a fifth on the horizon): the new Latitude 26° offers upscale coastal dining; The Islands Kitchen & Cocktail House focuses on tropical flavors; and The Village Brewhouse specializes in decadent burgers and a large beer menu.

Nature & Parks
If you’re a nature and/or animal lover, you can’t go wrong with a homebase in Punta Gorda. Within easy walking distance along the Harborwalk you'll find Laishley Park to the east, where wading birds often work the shoreline, and Gilchrist Park to the west, a pickleball hotspot where you might spot dolphins surfacing just offshore if you’re lucky. Both parks are also full of birds.
The History Park (which also hosts a Sunday Market, starting at 9 am) is a 5 minute drive away. In under 16 minutes or less, you can drive to Charlotte Harbor Preserve State Park for hiking, kayaking, and wildlife watching; IguanaLand, the world's largest reptile zoo; Motor City Mini Acres to cuddle mini Highland cows and goats by appointment; Peace River Wildlife Center for up-close encounters with birds and other animals, and right next door, Ponce de Leon Park, a favorite spot for sunset views.
Boating
Boating is also easy: Wilderness Boat Tours takes you along the Peace River and launches from Laishley Marina, a short walk from downtown. From here you can also hop aboard a fun tiki cruise with Cruisin’ Tikis Charlotte Harbor (6 people), Red Tiki Tours (12 people) or Punta Gorda Adventures (30 people). Fishermen’s Village options include King Fisher Fleet, offering harbor, sunset, and other cruises daily, and Your Boat Club, which offers boat rentals.
Arts & Culture
If arts, culture, and history are more your focus, Sea Grape Gallery is right in downtown Punta Gorda and both the Visual Arts Center and the Military Heritage Museum are less than a mile from Fishermen’s Village. Right next door to Laishley Park is the Vietnam Wall of Southwest Florida, an exact ½ scale model of the original.
The Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens, an amazing garden dotted with world-class art, is an easy 10-15 minute drive.
