Itinerary of the Month: A 3-Day April Weekend in Punta Gorda
April is always one of the more active months in Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach, with a steady rotation of outdoor activities, weekly markets, and several larger recurring events. If you're visiting over Easter, brunch is a popular option, and you can find current offerings in our Easter Weekend Getaway post. Whether you're planning a weekend trip, a longer stay, or timing your visit around a specific event, this itinerary is designed to be flexible.
For a broader look at activities, explore our full list of things to do in the area.
Day 1: Gardens and a Signature Event
Plan a relaxed morning at Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens, where a diverse collection of sculptures and ever-changing botanicals make it easy to spend a few hours without a fixed schedule.
Event Highlight: If you’ll be in town April 11, plan around the Blues, Brews, and Blooms Festival. From 10 am to 4 pm, enjoy live blues music, craft beer, food trucks, and full access to The Gardens. Performances include Steve Arvey, Kettle of Fish, and Mike Imbasciani, with the event structured so you can move easily between music, food, and exhibits.
In the afternoon, keep plans flexible. This is a good time for rest, light exploring, or lingering over a casual waterfront lunch or dinner.
Day 2: A Market, the Waterfront, and Local Food
Start your morning at the Punta Gorda Downtown Farmer's Market (see our full guide to local farmer's and artisan markets for locations and seasonal details). The downtown market runs Saturdays from 8 am to 1 pm and offers a reliable mix of local vendors, fresh produce, and prepared foods.
Afterward, spend time along the waterfront, strolling the Harborwalk or exploring Fishermen’s Village, which combines shopping, dining, and harbor views. Just one block to the southeast is the Visual Arts Center, a gallery with three major exhibits on display year-round. Nearby, Punta Gorda Coffee & Tea—along with Punta Gorda Chocolate & Wine in the same location—offers coffee, pastries, chocolate, and wine. Their Saturday Wine Tastings begin at 9:30 am and run until 3 pm.
Two blocks to the northeast, the Military Heritage Museum features more than 30,000 artifacts, along with interactive exhibits including virtual reality and simulators.
For dining ideas, we invite you to explore the Flavor Coast, where we feature 9 of our independent restaurants and the unique stories behind their success, their chefs and owners, and what makes them tick.
Event Highlight: If you’ll be in town April 17–19, plan your afternoon or evening around the Seafood & Music Festival at Laishley Park. The event runs all weekend with fresh seafood, a variety of food options, live music, and artisan vendors, making it easy to drop in for a few hours or stay through the evening.
Day 3: Music and Nightlife
Start your day with a relaxed, locals-approved brunch or a return to a favorite spot, then leave the afternoon open. You might explore IguanaLand, the world’s largest reptile zoo, take a swamp buggy tour with Babcock Ranch Eco-Tours, spend time by the pool, or head out to Englewood Beach (about a 30-40 minute drive from Punta Gorda) for a classic Gulf Coast afternoon.
Event Highlight: If you’ll be in town April 24–25, plan Friday evening and/or part of Saturday around the Southern Grand Slam Music Festival at the Charlotte County Fairgrounds. The two-day event is anchored by country headliner Cody Jinks and features additional artists, food vendors, and a large outdoor setup.
That evening, you have the option to continue just down the road at The Twisted Fork with Yaleo: The Ultimate Santana Experience. Inspired by Carlos Santana, the performance blends live music with storytelling and audience interaction. Its proximity to the fairgrounds (about 0.3 miles) makes it easy to attend both the same day.
