Day 1: Inside the Music
A Port Charlotte home base situates you perfectly between Englewood and Punta Gorda. Choose a hotel closer to Englewood like Days Inn by Wyndham or one just minutes from Punta Gorda like Microtel Inn & Suites, or take advantage of Sunseeker Resort’s Labor Day Liberation deal.
A Port Charlotte home base also means an amazing breakfast at one (or more) of the most well-established restaurants in the entire area: Sweet’s Diner (serving for almost 19 years), Joseph’s Deli (27 years), or Hometown Grill (13 years).
After a great breakfast, the rest of the day is yours to do with as you wish: spend time on one of our 15+ golf courses, indulge in some refreshing spa time, or just laze on the beach. Check out this post for more ideas for the long Labor Day weekend.
Event Highlight:
There’s no better way to cap a full and fun day than with music, and Sunseeker Resort Florida Gulf Coast has you more than covered with their Sunseeker Songwriter Series. This is an exclusive glimpse behind the scenes and inside the music of some of Nashville's most renowned hitmakers…who you may not have heard of. These award-winning songwriters will talk about and perform the hits they've written for some of the biggest artists around. This is a rare chance to hear the music from the people who created it. The magic kicks off at 7 pm on both Saturday and Sunday night, September 5 and 6. Tickets are available per-night or as a bundle.
Day 2: Arts and Crafts on Sullivan Street
The arts and crafts break out at 10 am, so you’ve got plenty of time for a leisurely breakfast in Punta Gorda. Head south for a savory skillet at Tamiami Tavern or dive in to a “Barnyard Beginning” at Burg’r Bar, then linger over coffee until it’s time for the ultimate art shopping:
Event Highlight:
Happening September 12 and 13, the Punta Gorda September Sullivan Street Craft Festival is a two-day juried art and craft show that turns downtown Punta Gorda into an open-air gallery. Artisans and craftspeople from across the country showcase art of all kinds, handmade jewelry, pottery, glass, woodwork, and more. Admission and parking are free.
Day 3: Butterflies and Key Limes, All in One Day
September 19 is a full day of outdoor fun. Start with a classic breakfast at Little Good Times Diner or build your own perfect start at Zoe’s Sweet Kitchen, both in Port Charlotte. Once you’re energized for the day, head south to Punta Gorda, east for butterflies, then west for some quality Key Lime time:
Event Highlight (morning):
The Folk & Flutter Butterfly Festival kicks off at 10 am at Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens in Punta Gorda and lasts until 2 pm. This is a celebration of all things butterfly and comes complete with live folk music, a variety of vendors, contests, and snacks. Regular admission prices apply and it’s recommended to bring a blanket or your own chair to enjoy the food and tunes.
Event Highlight (afternoon):
The Key Lime & Tropical Fest at Fishermen's Village happens noon–6 pm. This annual salute to Florida's signature flavor features Village restaurants and merchants serving up Key Lime-inspired food and drink specials while vendors of all types line the promenade. With live music in Center Court and at Sunset Beach Club, it’s a party wherever you land. Parking and admission are free.
