There's nothing quite like practicing yoga to the sound of Gulf waves and shore birds. Whether you're looking to start your morning on the sand or stretch surrounded by tropical flora, Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach offers several distinct outdoor spaces to find your breath.
Here's where to practice outdoors and what to know before you go:
Englewood Beach Yoga
For a true sand-between-your-toes experience, head to Englewood Beach on Manasota Key. Daily open-air classes are held right on the shore, offering an accessible, low-pressure way to move with the morning tide.
-
Who: Led by instructors from Loving Light Yoga.
-
When: Monday through Thursday mornings, 8:30–9:30 am.
-
Cost: $5–$10 suggested donation (sliding scale).
-
What to Bring: A large beach towel or bedsheet (works much better in the sand than a standard yoga mat), water, and sunscreen.
Yoga at Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens
For an outdoor practice surrounded by nature and art, Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens periodically hosts outdoor yoga, Tai Chi, and stretching sessions. Classes take place among world-class sculptures and lush botanical displays.
-
Tip: Check the Gardens' event calendar ahead of your visit, as these sessions are scheduled periodically throughout the month.
Ponce de Leon Park
If you prefer a quieter, harbor-front setting, Ponce de Leon Park in Punta Gorda provides a scenic dry-sand area right where the Peace River meets Charlotte Harbor. While there are no set daily commercial classes here, its open waterfront view and peaceful morning breeze make it a favorite local spot for self-guided practice and quiet reflection.
