Boating & Fishing

From miles of clean, beautiful beaches on the Gulf of Mexico to mangrove tunnels, rivers, bays, ponds, and Charlotte Harbor (the 2nd largest marine estuary in the state), you'll find a perfect environment for water activities of every kind in Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach.

Fishing is exceptional year-round. Check out our Fishing Calendar to find out what you can expect to catch, when. Hundreds of species inhabit these waters, but you'll usually hear snook, redfish, seatrout and tarpon mentioned the most. In spring and early summer, tarpon congregate around Boca Grande Pass on their annual migration, which is why Boca Grande is known as “The Tarpon Capital of the World.” This idyllic area plays main stage to some of the best tarpon fishing anywhere, so if catching the "silver king" is on your bucket list, come on down and try your hand.

Boaters will find dozens of boat ramps throughout the area, providing easy access to the entire area, including Don Pedro Island and Little Gasparilla Island, our two Florida islands accessible by boat only. There are also plenty of full-service marinas and quite a few waterfront restaurants nearby that offer dock access and gorgeous views.

There’s also fine sailing in the open-yet-protected waters of Charlotte Harbor. If paddling is more your speed, explore our miles of Blueway Trails by kayak, canoe or stand up paddleboard.
