Boating & Fishing

From miles of sandy, natural beaches on the Gulf of Mexico to Charlotte Harbor, the 2nd largest marine estuary in the state, you'll find a perfect environment for water activities of every kind.

Fishing is great all year in the area.  Hundreds of species inhabit these waters, but you'll often hear Snook, Redfish, Seatrout and Tarpon mentioned the most. In spring and early summer, Tarpon, on their annual migration, congregate in the area April through July. The Tarpon Capital of the World, Boca Grande, plays main stage to some of the best tarpon fishing in the world. If catching the "silver king" on a fly is on your bucket list, you're in the right place.

Boaters will find dozens of boat ramps throughout the area, providing easy access to the harbors and barrier islands.  Don Pedro island state park is a great stop while boating, and quite a few restauratns offer docks to tie up for food and drink.

Sailors delight in wide open, yet protected, sailing in Charlotte Harbor.  It's no wonder it was ranked as SAIL Magazine's top 10 places to sail in the U.S.

If paddling is your speed, whether kayak, canoe or SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) - you'll find miles of blueway trails to explore.
