If you’re looking for things to do over the long Labor Day weekend, we encourage you to explore a trip to Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach. It’s the perfect destination for adventure or downtime, or a bit of both. Add a hearty helping of dazzling dining, splendid sunsets, and an almost endless array of activities, and you’re set for the whole weekend.

Make Saturday a Punta Gorda Day

Close up of three plates of seafood with corn, potatoes, and beer at Peace River SeafoodA visit to Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens is an amazing trip through world-class art installations and wild botanicals. Don’t forget to visit the Butterfly Pavilion and feed the Koi. If the walk and copious picture-taking at The Gardens makes you hungry, stop by Peace River Seafood for fresh seafood and an authentic “crab shack” vibe. It’s a favorite of locals and returning visitors alike.  If you like hand-crafted spirits, get a taste of Alligator Bay Distillers locally sourced, “cane-to-bottle” rum on one of their free tours. For some suds and authentic Thai food and sushi, check out Peace River Beer Company.

The Military Heritage Museum in Punta Gorda is another must-visit. With thousands of artifacts, flight simulators, virtual reality experiences, interactive exhibits and more, this is a history- or military buff's dream. Nearby is Fishermen’s Village, which is a dining/shopping/live music/prime-sunset-viewing destination in itself. If you’re looking to visit both, you can arrange a free golf cart ride from the Village to the Museum and back. Right across from Fishermen’s Village is The Visual Arts Center. They’ve always got at least two exhibits going and their gift shop is a perfect place to get your art on.

Sunday Funday

If you’re looking to get out on the water, try an eco-tour like no other with Riding the Waves. You’ll learn to pilot a two-person catamaran then follow a guide on an exhilarating adventure. To slow it down a bit, try kayaking or standup paddleboarding with any of our local vendors. You’ll see nature all Silhouette of a single kayaker at sunsetaround you: birds of all kinds, fascinating sea life, possibly a dolphin or manatee, and truly beautiful views.

Once you’ve had some adventure, it’s time for food. Have a late lunch at one of the tasty spots near Englewood Beach, then enjoy a leisurely stroll down the beach or wiggle your toes in the sand and swim in the usually calm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Monday – No Labor Allowed
