Rain is a fact of Florida life, especially in summer and fall, but it doesn’t have to put a ‘damper’ on your fun! Regardless of the weather, it’s easy to have great cultural experiences in Punta Gorda.
The World on Film and an Art Attack
That special rainy-day feeling pairs well with art and culture. Here are a couple of ideas for your next moisture-rich afternoon.
Every Tuesday at 1:00 pm, FGCU’s Renaissance Academy at 117 Herald Ct., shows a foreign film on their big screen. The atmosphere is casual and friendly, and the $5 admission—check or credit card only!—includes refreshments. The intimate setting allows for complete immersion in the films, and the post-film discussions are enlightening and engaging. The core group of regulars is very welcoming.
Aside from myriad classes and paint/create parties, the Visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda presents year-round exhibits of world-class local art. The art is plentiful and inspiring, admission is free, and the gift shop is chock-full of goodies for every budget. Spending a couple of hours lost in art feels like time well spent, even on a sunny day here in our little slice of paradise.
