Tish Sheesley, highly experienced in the arts and humanities field, is the latest tourism industry member appointed to the Charlotte County Tourist Development Council. Ms. Sheesley is a Florida native born in Tampa and raised in Miami. With a degree in journalism from the University of Central Florida, she has worked all over the state for numerous nonprofit programs and museums. Since June 2015, she has been the executive director of the Arts and Humanities Council of Charlotte County and brings to the board an extensive background with non-profit organizations and arts and culture.

The Charlotte County Tourist Development Council is responsible for overseeing the uses of tourist development tax collected within the county and provides guidance to Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach Visitor and Convention Bureau whose mission is to brand, market and sell the area globally as Florida’s premier eco-tourism, leisure, and meeting and conference destination for the continual economic benefit of the community. The council is mandated by the state and enforced by Charlotte County.

Ms. Sheesley’s appointment was on the Charlotte County Board of County Commissioners Consent Agenda on July 26 of this year, and her term expires in August 2020.

Each year, the Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach Visitor & Convention Bureau conducts marketing, sales and promotional campaigns to increase awareness of and visitation to Charlotte County. In addition to generating economic contributions, the VCB is also focused on developing ecotourism and soft adventure travel. These popular low-impact industries enable the county to preserve the invaluable natural resources that contribute to its ecological and economic health, while distinguishing the area and drawing visitors. During calendar year 2015, Charlotte County welcomed an estimated 395,800 visitors and tourism generated an estimated $345,067,400 in direct expenditures and made an estimated $526 million economic impact in Charlotte County.

Also serving on the Tourist Development Council are Charlotte County Commissioner Christopher Constance; Punta Gorda Mayor Rachel Keesling; Punta Gorda Vice Mayor Kim Devine; Rick Brunette, Palm Island Resort; Kathy Burnam, Fishermen’s Village; Robin Madden, Islander Properties; Julie Mathis, Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce; and Kelly Williamson, Four Points by Sheraton Punta Gorda Harborside.
