PUNTA GORDA/ENGLEWOOD BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 21, 2018) –  The Florida Outdoor Writers Association (FOWA) awarded the Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach Visitor & Convention Bureau the First Place Excellence in Craft Award in the Corporate/Tourism Self-Promotion category during the organization’s Awards Banquet in Brooksville, Fla., on Sept. 15. The honor recognized “Episode 3” of Adventure & Wildlife Hosted by the Shark Brothers which highlights Charlotte Harbor’s commercial crabbing and seafood industries, Peace River Seafood, and the Peace River Wildlife Center as the episode’s conservation spotlight segment.

The series is hosted and produced by Sean and Brooks Paxton, known as the Shark Brothers and owners of Shark Brothers Multimedia which specializes in the capture and delivery of content for series, documentaries, destination and tourism promotion, innovative live streaming events, education, and cause marketing. Adventure & Wildlife Hosted by the Shark Brothers is part of the Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach VCB’s marketing efforts and invites those interested in exploring Florida’s wild outdoors, nature-based activities, and soft-adventure to visit the Charlotte Harbor Gulf Island Coast in Southwest Florida. The Awards Banquet was part of the Florida Outdoor Writers Association’s annual conference, Sept. 12 - 15. Jennifer Huber, public relations manager for the Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach VCB, has been a member of FOWA for more than a decade and was elected First Vice-President and Incoming President for the organization’s board of directors. Her one-year term as First Vice-President begins Jan. 1, 2019 and will she will begin serving as President of FOWA on Jan. 1, 2020.    

The Florida Outdoor Writers Association is a not-for-profit statewide paid professional communicators organization made up of the outdoor industry's top communicators, conservationists and industry related companies with a mission to heighten the education of the outdoors.

Annually, the Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach Visitor & Convention Bureau conducts marketing, sales and promotional campaigns to increase awareness of and visitation to Charlotte County. In addition to generating economic contributions, the Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach Visitor & Convention Bureau is also focused on developing soft adventure or ecotourism, a low-impact industry enabling the county to preserve the invaluable natural resources that contribute to its ecological health, distinguish the area and draw visitors. During calendar year 2017, Charlotte County welcomed an estimated 422,500 visitors, tourism generated an estimated $380,841,400 in direct expenditures, and made an estimated $580,783,200 economic impact.
