Punta Gorda, Fla. (Aug. 07, 2019) - Punta Gorda will be home to the “coolest Woodstock 50th Celebration" next week, Aug. 16 – 18, when the Charlotte Harbor Event & Conference Center becomes an indoor Yasgur's Farm to host an air-conditioned concert to commemorate the famous three-day festival in upstate New York in 1969. Promoter "Tiki Tom” Watson says ticket sales are approaching 500 and the event preparations are in full swing to present three days of live Woodstock-era music inside the arena.

"What started as a tie-day night in a Punta Gorda coffee shop has transformed into the three-day festival we have now planned," according to Watson, owner of The BEAN on 41 Coffee Shop in Punta Gorda. “We’ve been able to line up topnotch bands and musicians to create the vibe that occurred during the Summer of Love. We have this chance for all of us to reconvene, 50 years later, mind you, and remember an epic decade of history that culminated in the Summer of Love.  That event touched a nation in desperate need of a peace and love movement by 1969.  The sixties were so volatile, it’s as though Woodstock happened in some cos-mic sense to balance the order of the day!"

Watson says the bands themselves are extremely excited to perform at this particular event.  There is a balance of local talent, touring bands and performers to entertain the crowds with the flashbacks of the original Woodstock Weekend.

"We have something for everyone. The beauty of this is the music is the gift from the performers to the people. We are all anticipating something special at our Woodstock Weekend in Punta Gorda. This is a special town and these bands attract special people.  It’s going to a great summer spectacle in the comfort of the arena."

Local Paul Cottrell will lead off solo Friday afternoon at 4 pm. He will be followed in order by Champ Jaxon, Dave J. & the Poor Boys, Paisley Craze and Spiral Light. Saturday morning starts off with an acoustic “Breakfast Jam” followed by “The Original Punta Gorda Hippie” George Wesley, then Michael’s Hibiscus Band, Lee James, & cigar Box Bluesman Ben Pre-stage.

"Ben is treasure of the State of Florida," Watson says. “He will totally light up the arena at the midpoint of the event Saturday 2:00 pm!”  The rest of Saturday night rounds out with three local bands: YS-Dear, The Don Bonzi Project, and The Boogiemen Experience.  Watson was elated The Boogiemen were available for the show. “Hey, they’re local heroes of entertainment. The Boogiemen always electrify the town of Punta Gorda.  And we have them fin-ishing by 9:30 so people can still have a night on the town.  A perfect cap to a big day of great music."

Sunday morning is slated for a Christian set of Praise and Worship music featuring Danny Candia, The Souls Harbor Worship Team, The Southern Gospel Brunch Bunch, and an electric metal-edge Christian rock band City of Angelzs.  The weekend culminates with The For-bidden Fruit Farmers featuring Marcia Briggs.  A tribute to Janis Joplin will lead into the grand finale Sunday afternoon starting at 2:30pm.  Watson promises a remarkable send-off to the fans he estimates will eclipse over one-thousand.  “We’ll never get another 50 look at our lives in this sort of context ever again.  This will truly be a weekend beyond the ordinary for those of us townies who remain in town in August.  And for the out of town visitors?  They’re going to experience why we all love living around Punta Gorda!”
