From January 4 to February 8, 2018 Sea Grape Gallery will be featuring two of their artists, Anne Tuttle, Colored Pencil artist, and Marlene Jones, Horsehair Pottery artist.

Anne Tuttle, prior to moving to Florida, spent most of her life living on the Connecticut shoreline where she focused her paintings on boats, beaches and other maritime themes. Her primary interest is drawing where she has found satisfaction in watching colored pencil art grow in popularity, becoming an accepted medium in art shows and galleries. Anne strives for a minimalist approach and a clean, uncluttered look in her artwork. Living in Florida, Anne says “I am inspired by the natural beauty of the area and often find subject matter in my own yard”. In addition to working in colored pencil, Anne creates delicate Silverpoint drawings using a technique which dates back to the Old Masters. It is evident that Anne truly enjoys the creative process to produce her art and the satisfaction of successfully completing a piece of art for others to enjoy.

Marlene Jones lived in Baltimore, Maryland during the 1960’s where she learned the art of creating horsehair pottery. Later she moved to Florence, Italy for four years where she had the opportunity to further her knowledge and skills in the area of ceramic arts. Upon retiring to Punta Gorda after a successful marketing career, Marlene put her artistic abilities to work creating stoneware, raku and horsehair pottery. She is especially fascinated by the folklore of horsehair pottery which originated with the Plains Indians who fired horsehair into their wares. She loves creating custom pieces for horse owners and friends using tail or mane hair from their own horses. Marlene’s one-of-a-kind unique creations are truly beautiful pieces of art which can be displayed in any home.

Many of Anne’s beautiful colored pencil drawings and Marlene’s unique horsehair pottery are prominently on display at the Sea Grape Gallery. In addition, more of their art and the artworks of all Sea Grape artists can be viewed at
